1. Overview

ProposWise ("we", "our", "us") operates the website proposwise.com and the ProposWise Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

2. Data We Collect

  • Account information: Your name and email address when you register.
  • Upwork job content: The text of Upwork job postings you choose to analyze using the extension (title, description, requirements). This is only collected when you actively click "Analyze" or "Generate Proposal".
  • Usage data: Number of proposals generated, analyses run, and features used — to enforce plan limits and show you your own usage stats.
  • Payment information: Handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Your Upwork username, password, or login credentials
  • Your Upwork session tokens or cookies
  • Private Upwork messages or client contact details
  • Any Upwork page you have not explicitly triggered the extension on
  • Your browsing history outside of Upwork job pages

4. How We Use Your Data

  • Job page content is sent to our servers and processed by OpenAI to generate analysis and proposal text. It is not stored permanently after processing.
  • Your proposals and analyses are saved to your private dashboard so you can reference them later.
  • We use your email address to send account-related notifications (password reset, billing receipts). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.

5. Chrome Extension — Permissions

  • storage: Stores your authentication token locally in your browser so you stay logged in. The token never leaves your device except to authenticate with proposwise.com.
  • activeTab / scripting: Reads the content of the current Upwork job page when you click the extension button. We do not read any other tabs.
  • host_permissions (upwork.com): Required to inject the ProposWise panel into Upwork job and messages pages.
  • host_permissions (proposwise.com): Required to communicate with the ProposWise API to process your requests.

6. Third-Party Services

  • OpenAI: Job content is sent to OpenAI's API to generate AI-powered analysis and proposals. OpenAI's Privacy Policy applies to data processed through their API.
  • Stripe: Handles all payment processing. We never store your payment card details. Stripe's Privacy Policy applies.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data and saved proposals for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings. Job analysis data used for AI processing is not retained after the response is returned to you.

8. Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Authentication uses short-lived JWT tokens (15 minutes) with secure refresh token rotation.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and all data
  • Export your proposals and analysis history

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of any material changes. Continued use of ProposWise after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
